Arrow Puzzle Game: How to Play & Clear Every Level

Learn the arrow puzzle game rules, why you can never get stuck, and a zero-miss strategy for all 50 levels of Arrows, a free arrow escape game on Puzzit.

Arrow Puzzle Game: How to Play & Clear Every Level

An arrow puzzle game hands you a board full of arrows and one simple instruction: get them all out. Tap an arrow and it slides off the board in the direction it points, but only if nothing stands in its way. The puzzle is figuring out the order. On Puzzit you can play this for free in your browser as Arrows, with 50 levels and no download or sign-up.

This guide covers how the arrow escape rule works, the strategy that clears boards without wasted taps, two worked examples from real Puzzit levels, and how the browser version compares with the arrow escape and arrows out games you may have seen in app ads.

GAME

Arrows on Puzzit

A free arrow escape puzzle that runs in any browser, on phone or desktop.

GOAL

Clear every arrow

Each arrow leaves in the direction it points once its lane to the edge is empty.

LEVELS

50 shaped boards

Hearts, crosses, rings and more, holding between 9 and 25 arrows each.

SCORING

Moves and misses

A tap on a blocked arrow is a miss. Fewer misses means a cleaner solve.

How to Play the Arrow Puzzle Game

Open the Arrows game and you will see a board of colored tiles, each showing one white arrow. The counters above the board show your level, how many arrows are Left, your Moves and your Misses.

  • Tap an arrow to launch it. It slides straight off the board in the direction it points.
  • An arrow can only leave if every square between it and the edge is empty. If any tile is in that lane, the arrow shakes and stays put.
  • A blocked tap adds one to Misses. It also counts as a move, so the Moves counter includes your misses.
  • Clear every arrow to see the Solved screen, then go to the next level or replay this one.
  • Prev, Restart and Next let you move between levels. Next also lets you skip a level you are stuck on, and your current level is saved in your browser.

The one rule that catches new players: an arrow is blocked by any tile in its lane, whichever way that tile points. An up arrow sitting to the right of a right arrow still blocks it, even though the up arrow is heading somewhere else. You have to clear the up arrow first.

Can You Get Stuck? Why Order Matters Less Than You Think

A common complaint about arrow escape games, especially on Reddit, is that they are "trivially solvable": keep tapping any arrow that is free and you will eventually win. In the straight-arrow version that Puzzit uses, that is true, and it is useful to know why.

Removing an arrow never puts a new obstacle in anyone's way. It only empties a square. So an arrow that is free now stays free until you tap it, and a board that can be solved can never become unsolvable because of the order you chose. There are no dead ends to back out of, unlike a sliding puzzle such as the color maze game.

We checked every one of the 50 Puzzit levels with a small solver script. All 50 can be cleared, and none relies on a lucky guess. So where is the challenge? It is in finishing with zero misses. Anyone can win by tapping until something moves. Clearing a board without a single shake means reading every lane before you touch it, and that is the skill the Misses counter measures.

Arrow Puzzle Strategy: Clear Boards With Zero Misses

  • Scan the edges first. An arrow on the outer ring that points outward is always free. On Puzzit levels, anywhere from about a third to almost all of the arrows are free on the very first move.
  • Read the whole lane, not just the next square. Look from the arrowhead all the way to the edge. One tile three squares away blocks just as much as a neighbor.
  • Clear in waves. Tap every arrow that is free right now, then scan again. Each wave opens new lanes. Most Puzzit levels fall in two to four waves, and the deepest take six.
  • Follow chains backwards. If an arrow is stuck, find the first tile in its lane and ask what that tile needs. Keep going until you reach a free arrow, then tap the chain from the outside in.
  • Watch for arrows pointing at each other. Two arrows facing each other in the same lane, like → ←, block each other forever. Good levels avoid this, so if you think you see one, look again: one of them can probably leave by another route first.
  • Wait for the slide to finish. In our testing, rapid-fire taps while arrows were still sliding sometimes registered as misses. Tap at a steady pace.

WORKED EXAMPLE: LEVEL 1 TOP ROW

The top row of Level 1 reads ← → ↑ → →. The ← on the far left is free, and so is the ↑ in the middle, because nothing is above it. The second arrow (→) is blocked by that ↑, the → beside it, and the → on the edge. The clean order is: tap the right-hand → (free on the edge), then the → next to it, then the ↑, and only then the second-square →. Tap the second-square → first and you get a shake and a miss. Across the whole board, Level 1 has 25 arrows and clears in six waves, tied for the deepest chain in the game.

WORKED EXAMPLE: LEVEL 2 HEART

Level 2 is shaped like a heart with 18 arrows, and 11 of them are free from the start. The trap is in the second row: ← → ↑ → →. The → in the second square needs the ↑, → and → to its right gone before it can leave. Clear those three during your first two waves, and that → becomes the last arrow on the board. Tap it early and it costs a miss every time.

Short boards can still be tricky. Level 19 has just nine arrows, but only three are free at the start, so you need four separate waves to clear it. Count free arrows, not total arrows, when you size up a level.

Arrow Escape vs Arrows Out vs Arrows Go: Which Version Is Which?

Search for an arrow puzzle game online and you will find a whole family of games with the same core rule. The names blur together, but the details differ:

VersionArrowsPressureWhere to play
Puzzit ArrowsStraight, one tile each, 9 to 25 per levelNo lives or timer. Misses are countedFree in the browser
Arrow Escape style (winding arrows)Long bent arrows packed edge to edgeUsually hearts for wrong taps, and some add a clockBrowser sites and apps
Arrows GoLine-based arrow boards, hundreds of levelsOptional timed challenge modeBrowser
Arrow Puzzle and Arrows Out appsMostly winding arrows, very long level listsLives or hearts are commonAndroid and iOS downloads

Winding-arrow versions look harder, but the logic is the same: only the lane in front of the arrowhead matters. If you learn to read lanes on Puzzit's compact 5×5 boards, the big winding boards are just more of the same. If you want a calm, no-timer version that loads instantly, the browser game is the easiest place to start.

Arrow Puzzle Game FAQ

Is there a free arrow puzzle game online?

Yes. Arrows on Puzzit is free to play in your browser on phone, tablet or desktop. There is nothing to download and no account to create.

Why won't my arrow move?

Something is in its lane. Look from the arrowhead to the edge of the board: any tile in that line blocks it, even one that points in a different direction. Clear that tile first.

Can you get stuck in an arrow escape game?

Not in the straight-arrow version on Puzzit. Removing an arrow only frees space, so you can never make a level unsolvable by tapping in the wrong order. Your only cost is extra misses. We checked all 50 levels and each one can be cleared.

What happens when you tap a blocked arrow?

On Puzzit the arrow shakes, stays on the board and adds one to your Misses (and Moves). There are no lives, so the level never ends early. In many app versions a blocked tap costs a heart instead.

How many levels does the Arrows game have?

Puzzit's Arrows has 50 levels. Each is a shaped board with between 9 and 25 arrows, for 859 arrows in total. Your current level is saved in your browser, and you can replay any level to cut your misses.

What is the difference between arrow escape and arrows out?

They are different names for the same idea: tap arrows so they leave the board in the direction they point, once their path is clear. Arrows out games often use long winding arrows and lives. Arrow escape is the general name for the genre.
